
WHY DAVANAGERE
Known as the Manchester of Karnataka, Davangere has a dominant textile sector that is set to grow along with the food processing sector which provides the highest employment in the district. Agriculture is the highest contributor to the economic development of Davangere. The major crops of the district are paddy, maize and pulses like red gram, green gram and black gram. It cultivates other crops like groundnut, sunflower, sugarcane and cotton.
The district is also known for growing flowers like jasmine and marigold. The soil and climatic conditions favour horticulture cultivation here. Animal Husbandry is another major activity providing supplementary income. Textile constitutes approximately 13% of SSI industry units in the district, and a focused apparel park is in the pipeline to enhance this sector.
INFRASTRUCTURE & RESOURCE

Davangere has a land utilization of 59.49% for agriculture. The district also has 14.12% of uncultivated land and 13.68% forest cover along with 12.72% remaining land area. Lan Bank Area: 31.44 acres

Tungabhadra, Sasalahalla are the two major perennial rivers in the district. Shanthi Sagar, the second-largest freshwater lake in Asia is located here. These resources help irrigate 38% of the net sown land for agriculture.

Davangere district receives power from Sharavathi Hydro Electric Project and Guttur Station which receives power from Raichur Thermal Power Plant. However, the transmission in the district is being done by Bengaluru (Bangalore) Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM). Average demand in the district is 16491.19 MU, and average consumption annually is 308.63 MUNatural ResourceThe mineral reserves in the district include iron, manganese, white quartz and limestone fuelling steel industries amongst others.Human ResourceDavangere is home to several fine arts colleges and the notable SS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. Davangere University also provides advanced level degrees in science and commerce streams.
